Our new friend!

Yesterday afternoon as we were leaving the house to run some errands, we discovered this creature in our yard.
Zoom in on the picture to get a better look. After googling geese, we discovered this is a Chinese brown goose. They are a domestic goose. Some people even keep these as pets inside their homes. They do not really fly (in a tail wind they might clear a 5 ft. fence), just walk around. By the bump on their forehead you can tell whether it is male or female. We believe this is a female. So we have decided to name her Gertie for now. She spent the night by the sewer, because it is warm there and is still with us this morning. What does one do with a domestic goose that does not fly? How did it get here? How will it get home? Lost and found posters? I called animal control and they said that they do not deal with birds. She is very beautiful. Much bigger than the picture shows (can't get too close you know). Any ideas on what to do? Kyle was thinking Thanksgiving dinner but I said over my dead body! Macy is going crazy having that bird on her territory. I need to find her a new home and fast! I must admit it is kind of cool having her around!

Your adventures in Montana never end! Gertie is beautiful - and I am also at a loss as to what you should do with her...
